Orientation

Orientation begins at 11am on Sunday, January 4. You are expected to arrive at the school by that time. For the first two nights, you will be staying in dorm rooms located at the school, before moving to your host family homes on January 6. You are welcome to arrive in Rome before January 4, but you will have to find your own accommodations.

Address

The Catholic University of America
presso St. John's University
Via Marcantonio Colonna 27a
00192 Roma
ITALIA

For those arriving before January 4, other hotel suggestions can be found here.

Transportation from the airport

Rome has two airports: Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino and a smaller airport in Ciampino. Unless you are traveling in Europe before the program, you will be arriving at Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino).

Loyola will be booking a private bus to bring Loyola students from Fiumicino airport to the school on Sunday, January 4. They are flying on Continental flight 40 from Newark, departing at 5:30pm on January 3 and arriving in Rome at 7:50am on January 4. CUA students arriving at the same time or earlier are welcome to join the Loyola students for only 10 euro. Be sure to let Dr. Vasquez know to expect you.

Airport shuttle

You may book a shuttle in advance to bring you from the airport to the school. You can find out more information at www.airportshuttle.it. They will be waiting for you with a little sign with your name on it.

Taxi

A taxi is the easiest (although more expensive) way to the school with your luggage. Do not accept a taxi ride from people approaching you in or outside the airport saying "taxi". These are unregulated and may charge you an enormous fee and could be just anyone. Instead, go outside and look for the line of white taxis waiting at the taxi stand. The fixed price into Rome for the legal taxis is 40 euro, luggage and tip included.

Train and Bus

If your luggage is very manageable, you can take the train from the airport and the subway to the school. In the airport, look for signs leading to the train station: it will say "FS". You will take one of the raised passageways across the street to the station. Purchase a ticket to Roma Termini (currently 11 euro). Stamp your ticket at the machines on the way to the train. Trains depart every half hour. When you get to Termini, purchase a 1 euro ticket at a newsstand (bigletto per la metro). Take the subway (Metro) A line in the direction of Battistini five stops to Lepanto. From there it is a three-block walk to the school.
